Cardano four developments to watch: Leios, programmable tokens, 2027 budget and developer survey

Cardano at a Crossroads: Four Developments That Will Show Whether Usage Can Catch Up With the Price

In a Crypto Insiders poll of 627 readers, 329 (just over 52%) still hold ADA. Another 211 (almost 34%) have sold everything, and 87 never bought in. ADA trades around $0.19, down from roughly $0.23 on October 16 (closing price per CoinGecko). Four developments will show over the coming months whether that loyal base turns into measurable network usage.

1. Dijkstra and Leios

The planned Dijkstra upgrade is meant to bring Linear Leios, a change that lets the network process extra transactions alongside regular blocks. According to Cardano, a public testnet has been running since June. The first phase targets the end of 2026 but depends on approval through Cardano’s governance system. Even then, the extra capacity will not open at once: enough network operators must first register new cryptographic keys, after which limits can be raised step by step. Watch for a concrete proposal with a date, for operators migrating on time and for stability once limits rise.

2. Programmable tokens

Since October 7, companies can issue tokens on Cardano with built-in rules, such as identity checks, sanctions lists or limits on who may receive a digital share. The question is whether new issuers and recurring transactions follow the launch, for example through stablecoins, funds or bonds. More digital assets on the network do not automatically mean more demand for ADA. Only when applications generate steady transactions, users and fees does the technology gain economic meaning.

3. The 2027 budget

On October 28, Intersect proposed a new budget model for 2027, with spending spread over seven areas, including core development, research, developer support and ecosystem growth. A first informational proposal is provisionally planned for November 10. It does not approve any spending, but it will show whether DReps, the representatives of ADA holders, back the direction. What matters is the quality of spending: clear goals, measurable results and oversight of funded projects.

4. The developer survey

The annual Cardano developer survey runs until November 30. For the first time, the answers will be recorded directly on Cardano, so the survey also tests verifiable polling. The previous edition had 109 participants, who named higher transaction speed and better documentation as priorities. Look beyond the number of respondents to the share of new developers, the programming languages used and the obstacles builders report.

The four developments come down to one question: does a loyal community become measurable usage? This is not investment advice.
