Gold and silver fall to one-year lows

Gold Slips Below $3,900 and Silver Under $50 as the Tech Sell-Off Drags Precious Metals to One-Year Lows

Gold and silver dropped to their lowest levels in about a year on Friday. According to Newsbit, gold fell 2.53% on the day and touched $3,915 per ounce, its lowest since October 30, 2025. Silver lost 5.12% and hit $49.30, its weakest since November 21. Together, the two metals lost more than $700 billion in market value in a single day. Cointelegraph reported gold as low as $3,891 during US trading.

Newsbit lists several drivers. Doubts about whether AI spending will pay off sent the Nasdaq 100 down 3%. The $6.3 billion Binance hack added to the risk-off mood. Markets are also pricing a growing chance of a US rate hike in December after strong growth, rising inflation and expensive oil, and Fed chair Kevin Warsh has vowed to bring inflation back to 2%. Higher interest rates make non-yielding assets like gold and silver less attractive.

Silver has its own problem: Metals Focus expects a surplus next year after several years of deficits.

The moves leave gold about 30% below its peak at the start of the year, and silver roughly 60% below its January record. Bitcoin, at around $77,000, is also heading for its worst October since 2014, so neither digital nor physical gold offered shelter this week.
