Coinbase, Bithumb, Daishin and Mirae Asset disclose data incidents

Coinbase, Bithumb, Daishin and Mirae Asset Disclose Data Incidents Within Days, With Coinbase Pointing to Vendor Amplitude

Four financial firms disclosed data incidents within days, crypto.news reported on October 28. Coinbase said on X that contact information for a small subset of customers was exposed after a security incident at Amplitude, an analytics vendor that serves other companies. “Coinbase has not had a data breach,” it said, adding that it found no unauthorized access to its own systems, that customer funds are unaffected and that affected customers are being notified by email.

South Korea’s Bithumb discovered on October 27 that an unauthorized outside party had accessed its internal mobile groupware system, and it reported the case to the Korea Internet & Security Agency and the Personal Information Protection Commission. The scope of the exposed personal information is still under investigation, and Bithumb says the system is isolated from its trading infrastructure.

Daishin Securities detected suspicious activity on October 17 and confirmed the breach on October 26. Personal and credit information of 38,490 customers was exposed, including names, email addresses, residential addresses and phone numbers. Hackers targeted a server linked to its remote account-opening service. CEO Jin Seung-wook apologized.

Mirae Asset Global Investments said outsiders viewed internal business information on certain web systems without valid credentials, and that investors’ personal and credit information was not exposed.

Binance co-founder CZ warned that leaked names, emails, phone numbers and transaction histories can fuel phishing and SIM swapping, and recommended authenticator apps, hardware keys or passkeys instead of SMS codes. This is news, not investment advice.
