ICE Reposts Its Hyperliquid Perps Announcement With Regulatory Caveats, and HYPE Sinks

HYPE slid after ICE removed its announcement about bringing Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures to the U.S. The exchange operator has since reposted it with several important changes.

The new version states that the launch is subject to regulatory approvals. ICE and Trade[XYZ] will seek approvals for KYC-compliant perp markets, including permission to support leveraged trading. Users will access the platform through U.S.-regulated futures commission merchants that perform KYC/AML screening, including ICE’s joint venture with OKX.

The plan itself is unchanged. ICE intends to operate U.S.-regulated versions of Trade[XYZ]’s markets, the leading deployer of real-world-asset perps on Hyperliquid. The venue is designed for retail participation and will run separately from ICE’s institutional futures franchise. Once live, it should offer 24/7 trading across crypto, equities, indices, commodities and forex.

The difference between the two versions is the point. A launch that depends on regulators is not guaranteed, and the earlier wording left that out. The partnership is still on, but the timeline now depends on approval.

For traders, the takeaway is that headline partnerships can move prices before the regulatory path is clear. Follow the approval process rather than the announcement alone.
