Reuters poll: economists raise 2027 inflation forecasts

Economists Raise 2027 Inflation Forecasts in 31 of 50 Economies While AI Investment Props Up Growth, a Reuters Poll Shows

Economists have raised their inflation expectations while AI spending keeps growth intact, according to a Reuters poll of more than 500 economists, reported by Crypto Insiders. For 2027, inflation forecasts were raised for 31 of the 50 economies surveyed. Compared with the last three quarterly polls, the average eurozone forecast rose by 0.5 percentage points, the UK forecast by 0.7 points and the US forecast by 0.2 points.

Growth forecasts moved up too. The poll lifts global growth for 2026 from 2.9% to 3.0% and for 2027 from 3.1% to 3.2%. Investment in data centers, chips and other AI infrastructure is supporting the economy and preventing a broad downturn, the report said. That same strength makes rate cuts harder for central banks, because demand stays firm while energy costs raise living costs.

Oil is a key driver. Prices have been above $100 per barrel since October 7 and peaked above $117 the week before the report. HSBC chief economist Janet Henry said she is “much more worried” about inflation and warned that the longer Middle East tensions last, the more likely it is that price increases become persistent. Crypto Insiders noted that central banks may keep rates high for longer or raise them again if price pressures spread.

For crypto markets, the mix of sticky inflation and strong growth matters because traders are watching the Fed decision due on October 28. This is news, not investment advice.
