Akash Network Plans to Retire Its Cosmos Chain and Rebuild on Solana, With AKT Becoming an SPL Token

Akash Network, the decentralized compute marketplace, plans to retire its own Cosmos-based chain and rebuild on Solana, with its AKT token becoming a native Solana SPL token. The core team laid out the case in an October 26 blog post titled “Why We Selected Solana for Akash.”

According to the post, the migration proposal needs a 33.4% quorum and a majority of yes votes. If it passes, AKT would launch as an SPL token about two weeks later, and only after two independent audits. Holders would convert 1:1 through a one-way portal that stays open for two years, with the ticker and six decimals unchanged. Trade media reported early tallies near 98% support for Proposal 346, but we could not confirm a final result from a primary source.

The marketplace itself would move later, after at least two further votes and a testnet of at least six weeks. Akash says it pays for a sovereign chain it barely uses, and estimates network fees of about 0.075 SOL per day, which is the team’s own figure. The costs are real: about 100 validators lose their role, staking rewards end at cutover, and native IBC connections to Cosmos disappear.

Cutover has no date yet, and existing workloads are unchanged until then.
