Asset manager Schroders, which Crypto Insiders says manages about 895 billion euros, is putting its Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond on Solana through tokenization, with Centrifuge handling the technical side. Each token represents a stake in an intermediate fund that invests in the existing Schroders bond fund, so its value should track the fund’s net asset value.
The fund holds government and corporate debt from emerging economies. Returns come from interest and price changes in those bonds, not from the price of SOL. Direct access through Centrifuge lists a minimum investment of $100,000, about 89,000 euros, and investor-type and country rules also apply. Centrifuge’s live overview showed only about 179,000 euros in the fund on the day the article was written.
Crypto Insiders cautioned that tokenizing a fund does not remove credit, currency or liquidity risk. It quoted a Centrifuge statement, shown in an embedded post from DEGEN NEWS, saying: “ONCHAIN FIXED INCOME HAS LARGELY BEEN BUILT AROUND CASH AND SHORT-DURATION GOVERNMENT SECURITIES.” The point is that longer-dated emerging-market debt is a step beyond what most on-chain products offer today.
The move adds a traditional asset manager to a growing list of institutions placing funds on public blockchains. Whether it attracts meaningful assets will depend on how easily eligible investors can buy and redeem, and on whether the minimum ticket shrinks over time.
