Aztec Launches Tierra (Alpha V6) on Ethereum and Says a Critical Proof-System Flaw From V5 Is Fully Resolved

Aztec launched Tierra (Alpha V6), its private network on Ethereum, saying a critical V5 proof-system flaw is fixed. Apps on V5 are told to migrate.

Aztec, a privacy-focused network layer on top of Ethereum, launched its new network version Tierra, also called Alpha V6, on November 3. According to Aztec’s network status page, the release fully resolves a critical vulnerability in the proof system of the previous version, Alpha V5, which was reported in August.

“Introducing Aztec Tierra (Alpha V6). The platform for unstoppable private apps is here,” the team wrote on X. According to Crypto Insiders, a user’s device can now generate a proof for a private transaction in about one second, twice as fast as before. Messages from Ethereum to Aztec can arrive within twelve seconds under favorable conditions, compared with an average of two minutes previously. The update also adds extra security testing and formal verification of key cryptographic components.

Aztec advises apps and assets still running on V5 to move to Tierra, because V5 was exposed to a protocol-level bug. V6 starts as a new network, so old network data, addresses and some settings do not carry over automatically. Developers and node operators have to switch to new software and addresses, and the status page now lists Tierra V6.0.0 as current.

Tierra remains an alpha network, so users should treat it as early-stage infrastructure. Apps for private payments, trading and messaging have been announced or are already available, and their uptake will show whether demand for private on-chain activity is growing.
