Trezor Safe 5 suspected hardware implant sold via CryptoBilis

Trezor Reports a Suspected Hardware Implant in a Safe 5 Sold by CryptoBilis and Urges Buyers to Move Funds

Trezor says it has received a responsible-disclosure report of a single hardware implant in a Trezor Safe 5 bought from the reseller CryptoBilis in August 2026. No CryptoBilis buyer has reported a loss of funds, according to Trezor.

The report, from a customer in Indonesia, describes an extra circuit board fitted between the main board and the screen, with a cellular module and an antenna. Per the report, it reads what the screen shows, including the wallet backup, and sends it over a mobile network whenever the device is plugged in. Trezor has not verified this, because it has not yet received the device, but it is treating the report as credible. The customer noticed a weight difference, which Trezor says is not a reliable test, and had already moved funds off the device.

Trezor removed CryptoBilis as a reseller on October 9, after reports of tampered Ledger devices sold through it. It has inspected four CryptoBilis-bought devices so far and found no signs of tampering.

Anyone who bought a Trezor from CryptoBilis since March 2026 should move funds to a newly created wallet with a new seed, never reuse the old seed, and not set up an unused device. If no other secure hardware wallet is available, Trezor suggests temporarily using a software wallet or a familiar exchange. Affected customers can contact Support for a replacement. Trezor thanked SEAL 911 for helping with the response.
