Bitcoin gave back an overnight push toward $85,000 and traded near $82,800 on Thursday. The peak was about $84,800 late Wednesday, followed by a drop of more than $2,000 within six hours. Bitcoin has stayed in a tight range for a month, and the Q3 rally has largely run out of steam in October.
Two outside forces weighed on the market. Global tech shares fell after mixed U.S. earnings, with investors worried about higher interest rates and the sustainability of AI spending. Crypto often trades with tech stocks, so the move spilled over. At the same time, Brent crude rose to about $111, a five-month high amid Middle East tensions, which feeds fears of sticky inflation and higher rates. The U.S. 10-year yield is around 5.08%.
Spot bitcoin ETF demand held up better than the price. Net inflows were $526.7 million on October 19, $23.2 million on October 20 and $524.8 million on October 21, a three-day total of about $1.07 billion. Both large days exceeded $276 million.
| Date | BTC price | ETF net flow |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 21 | $84,093 | +$524.8M |
| Oct 20 | $83,028 | +$23.2M |
| Oct 19 | $81,938 | +$526.7M |

Key levels: $82,500 and $80,000 as support, $84,000 to $84,850 as resistance. A break above $85,000 is the level for the bulls.
